Going to Give Intermittent Fasting a Go

I have been watching YouTube videos and reading medical articles about the benefits of intermittent fasting.

It’s not new, but it is quite the trendy thing going on right now (just go to youtube and type in “intermittent fasting”).

I have been successful with:

  • Weight Watchers (the old Points Plus system) – It was a decent experience. It basically taught portion control.
    • Pros: you can eat what you want basically, just stay in your points.
    • Cons: it really gets old tracking points all the time.
  • Atkins/Low Carb – My body seems to like eating cleaner and avoiding carbs. My main issue is that it is sooo hard to sustain this diet.
    • Pros: no tracking and I can just go about my day with low carb stuff around me.
    • Cons: it’s really hard to sustain and grocery shopping sucks

The fact is – Rich needs to drop a chunk of weight (at least 50lbs).

Intermittent Fasting

In my research on intermittent fasting, I think I like the benefits quite a bit, and, I believe it would fit my life pretty well.

There are many different methods, which I won’t discuss here, but I am going to do the 16/8 plan.

The 16/8 plan is basically eating during an 8-hour window and fasting the remaining 16 hours. Piece of cake!

My hours of eating will be 11am – 7 pm.

I will try and get my exercise done in the mornings I am not working before 11am.

Between the hours of 7pm – 11am I will be drinking water and maybe an occasional tea or coffee without cream or sugar…. and I’ll be sleeping through half of that time too.

What Do I Eat?

I am not going to go commando on what I eat… well you know what I mean… I am not going to go as strict as some of these people on YouTube say you must eat. It’s out of my league and it’s beyond reality.

Some day when I get my own YouTube channel and I become “Righteous Rich the Clean Eating Organic Pure Boy,” then maybe I’ll reach their standards.

I will eat what I want for the most part. I’m not going junko crazy. I eat good foods, but I also enjoy a burger and a pizza as well.

So, no real restrictions, at least to begin. Just gonna try and use the common sense that God gave this guy.

I Start…

I will start my intermittent fasting on Wednesday, January 9th.

I will do this until Saturday, February 29th. That’s one month. If things are going well, I will likely continue.

This isn’t really an experiment. I do hope it works and my body, brain, and all the benefits of the pictograph above begin to happen. I could see this being a way of life.

But, if it just plain sucks, then I can at least know it’s only for 1 month.

Eitherway, I will be documenting things and checking in to see how it’s going.

To good health (I hope)
