Kind of Creepy

I worked with college age international students from Asia for about 6 years.  Many of them were from Japan and Taiwan.  They would come over to our home and play with our kids quite often… so much so that they began bringing them lots of Hello Kitty gifts… the real stuff from overseas.  Well, Hello Kitty just got a little creepy.  Check out this photo:

Day 3 and Still Going

Just a quick update… I am completely out of shape.  I used to run 5 – 10 miles with no problem, but that was half a lifetime ago in college.  I am building toward running the entire mile, but for now it is run/walk for the mile.  Each day I have been able to increase my running distance by .1 of a mile.  But, lot’s of pre-marathon training left to…

Month 1, Day 1

Well, it has begun! I’m taking on a new challenge.  A 26.2 mile challenge. I’ve had 3 “To Do” goals before I reached an age when I couldn’t do them any longer: Run a marathon Bungee Jump off a tall bridge Skydive Today it is the beginning of getting ready for the first goal.. because I can’t do #2 and 3 until I’ve done number 1.  I’ve been reading up…

Kindergarten Graduation

Well, my youngest child just walked across the stage to get his diploma.  My oldest child just graduated from 8th grade, my middle child just finished 6th grade, and my son just graduated from kindergarten. You slowly begin to see the rest of your life.  I’ve always alluded life to a book.  Each book has many chapters, and as my son walked across the stage, I could hear the page begin…

Moving Forward in 2007

I like New Year’s Resolutions and Goal Setting.  I remember doing it back in high school and college.  In fact, one year I remember in particular was New Years of my Freshman year in college back in 1984.  I was at a New Years party at the Fellowship House in Springfield, IL. We were told to write down a resolution or goal.  Well, I had a ton of goals and…

Practice Being an Entrepreneur

Investment coaches have said that one of the best ways to learn to invest in the stock market is to use fake money, or simulate your trades.  Well, many people dream of starting their own business or working from home.  Now you can practice it with the The Sims 2: Open for Business Expansion Pack It’s been a long time since I played the Sims, but this looks worth getting…

What I learned from the Nintendo Wii

This December I have been testing two related theories of mine to see if they are true… and I have concluded that my theories are VERY true! People Have Money Perceived Value Is An Important Key To Success This month I drove throughout the Dallas / Ft. Worth area hunting down two top commodities this Christmas season – The Nintendo Wii (which cost $249) and The Sony PlayStation 3 (which…

29 pounds, and still falling

Just a quick update…. Have lost 29 pounds now.  I haven’t eaten a candy bar in over a month (not even at Halloween).  It’s all feeling pretty good.  Maybe one of these days I’ll post a before and after photo and gross you all out 🙂 Seriously, I feel good.  My blood pressure has come way down, and I will soon get a test for all my vital statistic numbers….

Democracy’s Greatest Strength is It’s Greatest Weakness

I am worn out!  I receive 3-5 political phone calls a day, 3-5 postcards in the mail each day, drive by hundreds of Democrat or Repbulican yard signs and posters each week, and hear way too many ads on the radio or TV. Nothing is objective any more.  You cannot trust any news station to provide an objective report.  CNN is anti-American, anti-war, anti-Republican, and anti-Christian.  The only thing the Democrats…

Full Time – Work From Home – How Did I Get Here?

Like 95% of most people who were trying to start some type of home business, my goal was to some day work from home full time.  I knew it was how I worked best, and even though I had a full time teaching position at a great university, if it is not where your heart is… Anyway, for my birthday back in 2003, my wife gave me a little book…

18 pounds and counting

It’s not been as bad as I’d thought it would be.  I took about 16 days to go through the induction phase of the Atkins diet.  Atkins has received a lot of crap over the years because they misunderstand things.  The diet itself is actually not that harsh.  But, people believe the induction is the whole diet, when it’s not.  The 2 week induction is designed to get you moving…

Living Large, Living Out Loud!

Seth Barnes’ Blog (see the link on the right) today struck another chord with me.  Here is a portion of it: =========== Henry David Thoreau wrote, “The mass of men lead lives of quiet desperation.” Though Thoreau was probably not a Christian, he recognized that life was valuable, and should be treated as such. Thoreau lived by this creed: I wanted to live deliberately. I wanted to live deep and…
