About 10 hours left
I want to continue to express my gratitude. Up till now, we have now received 38 different people who have helped contribute to Suzie. I know that both Suzie and I would say it has been a big success!
There are about 10 hours left before I shut down the "Help Suzie" page at midnight tonight.
I want to address one more thing - How do you choose who to help when there are so many others around you that also need help?
On my first trip to Zaire, Africa (now the Congo), I was overwhelmed by the needs around me: the poor, leprosy, AIDS, TB, poor health conditions in some areas, etc. If I went in town, there were constantly people begging. So, how do you determine who to help and who not to?
It's not an easy answer. I could drive around the Dallas/Ft. Worth area (where I live), and give money away to the people begging at the intersections every day. But, I don't.
The only answer I have been able to come up with… and it makes sense to me… is to help the people that God places on my heart and that He enables me to help. I'm not talking about me personally deciding who is worthy, who is honest, who is unworthy, who is not being honest. I am simply talking about helping those for whom God places on my heart to help.
I have helped many people by buying them a Walmart gift card for groceries, filling their gas tank, buying a meal for them, paying a bill for them… but it is because these are people that God "burdoned my heart" or that He somehow led me to help.
It's not a "concrete" explanation, but like I said, it makes sense to me.
So, the decision to help Suzie was one of those things. It is something that I believe God led me to, using the business that I have, and in formulating a plan, we have been able to help one person… who I KNOW… will return the generosity to others that she meets through her hospitality and generous heart.
I hope that helps explain things a bit.
God Bless!
